1. Material Selection – The Right Alloy Matters
The foundation of any premium keyboard kit is its material. We primarily use 6063-T6 aluminum alloy for its excellent machinability, corrosion resistance, and consistent anodizing results. For clients requiring extra strength, we also offer 6061-T6 and 7075-T6 options.
Beyond aluminum, we machine parts from:
Brass / Copper – for weight plates and decorative inlays
Stainless Steel – for backplates and nameplates (with mirror PVD coating)
PC / POM – for switch plates and diffusers, offering distinct sound profiles
Acrylic – for entry-level stacked cases
Each material is selected based on the project’s acoustic, aesthetic, and durability requirements.
2. CNC Machining – Precision Down to ±0.03mm
All our aluminum cases undergo a rigorous CNC machining workflow:
Roughing – removes bulk material and defines the outer shape.
Finishing – refines internal cavities, USB-C recesses, and mounting points.
Tapping – creates precise threaded holes for reliable assembly.
We achieve tolerances of ±0.03mm to ±0.1mm, ensuring:
Flush, gap-free case halves
Perfect alignment between switch plate and PCB
Accurate port positioning
Consistent screw threads
We also support six-sided CNC machining for complex designs with curved chamfers and side inlays — details that elevate a kit from good to exceptional.
3. Surface Finishing – Anodizing, Electrophoresis, and PVD
After machining, we apply surface treatments that enhance both appearance and durability.
Anodizing (our most common finish):
Sandblasting (180–220 mesh) creates a uniform matte texture.
Electrolytic oxidation forms a protective layer.
Dyeing and sealing deliver consistent, long-lasting colors.
Electrophoretic coating offers an ultra-smooth, glass-like feel with a wider color palette (including pastel shades), though it is slightly less scratch-resistant.
Powder coating provides a textured, rugged surface with maximum color variety and excellent wear resistance.
For decorative accents (nameplates, badges, counterweights), we use PVD coating to achieve mirror-polished or sandblasted metallic finishes.
4. Component Manufacturing – Beyond the Case
A complete kit includes multiple precision-made components:
PCB – manufactured with black-core substrate, OSP or copper plating, and hot-swap sockets.
Switch Plate – available in aluminum, brass, stainless steel, PC, POM, or FR4, each delivering unique typing feel and sound.
Sound Dampening – multi-layer Poron, silicone, EVA, and IXPE foams, precision-cut to fit each case cavity.
All components are produced in-house or sourced from trusted partners under strict quality control.
5. Assembly & Quality Assurance
Before shipping, every kit undergoes a systematic assembly and inspection process:
Install standoffs and mounting hardware.
Align and secure the switch plate.
Add dampening layers in correct sequence.
Mount the PCB and secure stabilizers (with proper lubrication).
Test PCB functionality (key rollover, RGB, connectivity).
Perform final case closure and torque verification.
Conduct visual and dimensional inspections.
Our QC checks cover:
Surface defects, scratches, and color uniformity
Fit and gap tolerances
Thread integrity (no cross-threading or stripping)
Electrical performance
Packaging for safe transit
This ensures every unit delivers consistent feel, sound, and build quality.
6. Why Precision Engineering Defines a Great Kit
In the custom keyboard community, enthusiasts value:
Tight tolerances – for flawless fit and finish
Reliable threads – to prevent assembly issues
Uniform finishing – matching the advertised aesthetic
Consistent acoustics – across the entire keyboard
Durable surfaces – that resist daily wear
As an industry expert put it: “Precision is the baseline of industry and the starting point of art.” Our manufacturing philosophy embodies that principle.
